Cohiba Cigars

Cohiba is the given name for 2 cigar brands of fine cigars, one manufactured on Cuba for Habanos SA, and the other created in the Dominican Republic for General Cigar. The brand Cohíba is taken from the Taino word for "tobacco."

The Cohíba cigar brand was at first a private cigar brand supplied only to Fidel Castro and to other Cuban regime and communist party executives.

Furthermore was the Cohiba cigar often presented as diplomatic gifts, and so developed a "cult" status. The Cohiba brand was released for unrestricted purchase in the early 80's.

The Cuban Cohíba cigars are famous to make use of some of the most excellent cigar tobacco accessible in Cuba. The tobacco for Cohíba is chosen from the best Vegas Finas de Primera in the San Luis and San Juan y Martinez regions of the Vuelta Abajo area of Pinar del Río Province.

The tobacco that is being used to load the cohiba cigars is distinctive among Cuban marquees since it goes through a 3rd fermentation method in barrels, which is presumed to give it a smoother taste than other cigars. Originally all Cohíba cigars were prepared at the El Laguito plant, a transformed mansion situated on the outer reaches of Havana. Afterward, the making of some Cohiba vitolas was extended to other plants.
