DON TOMAS CLASICO
The DON TOMAS premium cigar brand was created in 1970 by UST, the smokeless tobacco giant, and was the product of a large factory in Danlí, Honduras. Premium cigars never were a big business for UST, accounting for a fraction of its total sales, and the premium cigar business was rather sleepy, until the 1990s cigar boom. Then the DON TOMAS cigar company pumped millions into Honduras, added brands and planned to approximately double Don Tomas sales from 1996 to 1997. It never happened.
The Don Tomas cigar unit faltered after the boom, and eventually was given to Swedish Match AB (General Cigar Co.'s parent company) to settle a lawsuit. Now General has reblended the smoke. They're the best Don Tomas cigars we've smoked in a long time.
